Hay-on-Wye Winter Weekend 2025

A Winter Wonderland of Words & Wonder

As the crisp air returns and the nights draw in, the beloved Hay-on-Wye Winter Weekend offers the perfect reason to wrap up warm and escape to the beautiful border town of Hay-on-Wye. Running from 26th to 30th November, this four-day festival delivers a heartwarming blend of conversations, storytelling, music, comedy, workshops, and family-friendly events - a much smaller, cosier counterpart to the famous spring Hay Festival.

Check out the programme for 2025, with most events taking place within Hay Castle grounds, creating an atmospheric setting.

The festival is as much about community spirit as it is about culture. On Friday 28th November, Hay-on-Wye’s town square becomes the heart of the festivities with:

  • A Christmas Gathering: carols, mulled wine, street food, and there might even be a visit from Santa himself!
  • The Christmas Lights Switch-On at 6.30PM: a magical moment for all ages!
  • Hay Winter Market: Held on Saturday and Sunday, featuring artisan makers, bakers, crafters, and producers from across the region.

Whether you're browsing the local shops, enjoying live music, or warming up with hot cider, the town buzzes with seasonal joy all weekend long.

Why not turn your visit into a weekend getaway? From cosy cottages to riverside views, here at Where the Wye Wanders, we have a range of accommodation available…

  • The Lake House, Sleeps up to 10, just 3 miles from town
  • The Bothy on Hay Bluff, Sleeps 2, A rustic, romantic hideaway
  • River View Rooms, sleeps 2, Ensuite rooms with stunning  views of the River Wye

Check our accommodation listings for availability during the Winter Weekend. Book early this event is popular!
